The Beauty Of Solar Garden Lights

By Jean Tyler

Have you ever thought about the wonder of having paths through your garden, or around your house, totally lit up at night - and you know it's not running up your electric bill?

Convenient- Because you do not have to wire anything, solar garden lights are very convenient. A lamp can be fixed anywhere either by planting a stake in the ground or by simply screwing the fixture in place on any structure, provided its location will allow it to absorb the sun's energy during the day.

Because it's self generating, absorbing the sunlight's energy and then discharging that same energy to create a soft, but bright light in the darkness, the solar garden lights are at the top of today's technology.

Initially, when solar lamps were first introduced on the market, they lacked efficiency. The photovoltaic cells weren't strong enough to reliably hold a charge for more that a few hours. However, with LED technology emerging together with the more efficient NiMH power packs replacing the older NiCAD, modern solar garden lights provide both a stronger light and a longer discharge time than they did in the past.

The things that come together to create a solar garden light are fairly simple; when you look in the plastic case, you will discover a little controller board, that is hooked to a LED light source, a photo resistor needed to tell when it is dark, one AA NiCAD battery, and on top, a solar cell.

Environmentally Friendly - With the growing demand for renewable energy, technological advancements have greatly contributed to improved solar garden lights. There is a big selection of solar lights to choose from in stores now, and a multitude of places and uses for them as well.

The environment will not be hurt by solar powered lighting, since it doesn't give off radiation or any other type of side effects, that can be found by other energy sources.

Safety - Solar power eliminates the worry about high power bills and prevents issues with voltage and power surges. There is no chance of being electrocuted making it safe to use in the presence of children and pets.

And there's no requirement for any sort of special wiring, cabling, or transformers when you have these lights in your yard or garden. A lamp can be placed at the remotest corner of the landscape to light up a special feature, a pathway or to focus on a security need. There are several options available through the use of solar lights and it can also enhance your garden's appearance as well as your enjoyment of it.

Demand - The growing demand for this source of lighting has spawned the lighting industry to produce more decorative solar garden lighting that are both aesthetically and practically pleasing.

Although the drawback is cost, the initial outlay is eventually offset by smaller energy bills. - 29939
