Home Made Wind Power

By Tim Hover

No doubt you can build your own home made wind mill. And they are not that hard to build. If an impoverished adolescent boy in Africa could do it, just think of what you could do. Especially if you get the plans from them that have lead the way.

One of the things that make wind power, suitable for most people is that it is very versatile. They can generate electricity in low winds. Even winds as low as 8 miles per hour, can create electricity. When coupled with a battery system to store the energy during high output. You should always have a steady amount of electricity.

They can also be sized, they can be adjusted to fit your residence and your electrical demands. Even in the tiniest of yards, they can be made to adapt. Or no yard at all, they can be mounted on a roof. But I must say it possibly will not measure up in an apartment.

Contrary to solar panels, you do not have to wash windmills regularly. Climbing on your roof to cleanse panels can be hazardous especially if you live in snowy location. A well planed home made wind generator is virtually maintenance free.

This is not new technology, dynamos have been around for a long time. Every car has one, a few bicycles come. The point being that depending on the scale to which you plan to build a wind mill you will find most of what you need just lying around. Which makes them unusually cheap and easy to build.

The first step anyone should take when considering an renewable power resource. Is to reduce there electrical usage. Start by replacing all the incandescent light bulbs in your house with compact florescent bulbs. They consume 75% less power and put out 75% less heat.

Did you know that 40% of the average electric used by the average home is from devices that are switched off. Things like TVs, DVD players, DC converters, and microwaves numerous of these appliances are using electricity if they are plugged in. Put them on power strips or unplug them. These small steps should roll back your power needs by 65 percent, which makes switching to a home made wind generator a lot easier - 29939
